Israeli gov't orders immediate evacuation of citizens from Maldives

The Israeli government has ordered all Israeli citizens in the Maldives to leave the country immediately.

Israel issued the notice following a decision by Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to amend the relevant laws to ban entry into Maldives on Israeli passports, as per the recommendation of the Cabinet.

Israel issued a travel advisory urging Israelis in the Maldives to depart promptly, stating that there may be potential difficulties in providing assistance should any issues arise during their stay in the Maldives. The Israeli government has also asked its citizens not to travel to the Maldives.

The Cabinet decision made on Sunday includes amending relevant laws to prevent Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives and forming a Cabinet subcommittee to oversee these measures.

Last year, the Maldives received 11,000 Israeli tourists. Between December 2024 and the end of April this year, a total of 528 Israeli tourists visited the Maldives.
