Israel passport ban should include individuals with dual citizenship: MP Mikaeel

Galolhu South MP Mikaeel Ahmed Naseem has said individuals holding dual citizenship along with Israeli passports should also be barred from entering the Maldives.

Mikaeel has proposed an amendment to the Immigration Law to ban Israeli passports in the Maldives due to the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Debating the bill at Monday's parliament sitting, Meekail said the world recognizes that the situation in Palestine is not a conventional war, but rather a deliberate act of genocide. The amendment to the Immigration Act to ban Israeli passports was proposed so that the Maldives takes strong international action against Israel, he said.

In his proposed amendment, Mikaeel also recommended prohibiting individuals with dual passports alongside Israeli passports from entering the Maldives. He acknowledged concerns raised about the potential impact of this amendment, particularly on the Palestinian population residing in Israel, estimated at around 1.2 million.

"We are including this article here, we are proposing this bill for a specific purpose. The objective of this bill is not achieved if there is no provision in this amendment to prevent Israeli individuals with dual citizenship from entering the Maldives," he said.
