Int’l flight movements increase at Maldives’ VIA

The number of international flight movements at Maldives’ main international airport, Velana International Airport (VIA) has increased.

According to statistics shared by the central bank, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), flight movements rose by 2.8 percent by end of May this year compared to the same period last year. From January to end of May last year, 6,991 flights movements were recorded, while this number increased to 7,193 during the same period this year.

Of these 7,193 flight movements, 6,523 movements were scheduled flights, and 670 were charter flights and private flights. Statistics by the Tourism Ministry show 40 airlines operated to the Maldives as of end of May.

By end of May, over 890,000 tourists has visited the Maldives. The number has since crossed one million.
