The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has reported a decline in the amount collected as Zakat-al-Mal in the first six months of this year.
According to the MIRA, the state collected MVR 50.8 million in Zakat-al-Mal from January to June this year. This included $3,055 in dollars. In comparison, the state received a total of MVR 51.3 million in as Zakat-al-Mal during the same period last year, including $1,570 in dollars.
Although the overall amount declined, collections in June increased from MVR 3.1 million last year to MVR 4.3 million this year.

Zakat-al-Mal was previously paid to the Islamic Affairs Ministry. However, in 2016, the collection of Zakat was transferred to MIRA. Zakat can be paid through MIRA’s online platforms and by physically visiting MIRA.
