Waste management facilities have been established in 22 islands.
Speaking at a press conference held by the Environment Ministry, Minister Thoriq Mohamed said establishing waste management facilities at island level is a top priority of the government. He noted that the work of establishing waste management facilities are underway at different stages in 51 islands. While the facilities have been fully installed in 22 islands, testing is now ongoing in these islands, he said.
The minister also said vehicles necessary for household waste collection and management are being dispatched to the islands. Such vehicle have been sent to 76 islands so far, he said.
