Homeland Minsiter highlights rampant corruption in institutions

Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihsan has said that many institutions in the Maldives are plagued by corruption.

Speaking at the launch of Homeland Security Ministry's Naares Portal and the second phase of the Kurangi Operation, the minister said the biggest challenge for law enforcement agencies is the corruption within various institutions. The minister acknowledged corruption cases in agencies under the Homeland Security Ministry, and emphasized that such things should not be tolerated, especially in uniformed institutions.

"We have a zero-tolerance policy for this. Especially in uniformed institutions, we must not allow even the smallest instance of such behavior,"

Minister Ihsan assured that all employees in the agencies under the Homeland Security Ministry would be held to the highest standards of honesty and trustworthiness.

Ihsan also mentioned the case of 18 corrections officers accused of smuggling phones, drugs, and prohibited items into Maafushi jail. He noted that the officers involved had received significant financial benefits.
