President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially inaugurated the National Identity Card (NID) and passport services in all Atolls program. The ceremony was held at the President's Office on Saturday.
This initiative is a pledge by President Dr. Muizzu to provide basic services to all citizens, regardless of their location.
The scope of this project aims to expand NID and passport service availability to include all of Male' City, as well as Laamu and Dhaalu Atolls. Passport services have been launched in Hulhumale' Phase 1, Phase 2, Villimale', Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, and L. Fonadhoo under the project.
During the ceremony, a detailed roadmap was presented outlining how NID and passport services will be expanded to all atolls. The service will be available in Kulhudhuffushi City later this year. By 2025, these services will be established in designated areas across each city and atoll.
Speaking at the ceremony, Homeland Minister Ali Ihsan said the information submitted to Immigration will be stored securely and ID cards and passports will be printed securely by island councils.
“The information submitted to Immigration will be protected,” Ihsan assured.
