Gov't to launch modern taxi line as part of "Male' Fahi Program"

The Maldives government has decided to launch a taxi line service, an initiative under the "Male' Fahi Program" introduced by the Transport Ministry on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the new service aims to provide a modern, safe, and reliable transportation option as done in developed countries. The taxis will operate under a freelance policy and be managed through a dedicated application. The arrangement will ensure the safety and security of both drivers and passengers, the ministry said.

The Transport Ministry added that the initial rollout of the taxi line will include a commitment to ensuring that at least 25 percent of the vehicles are environmentally friendly electric cars.

The government’s decision to launch a taxi line follows ongoing demands from both taxi center drivers and private taxi operators from time to time.
