Azim elected as Male' President in MDP National Assembly vote

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has been elected as the new Male' consituency President in the MDP National Assembly vote held on Friday. This election was conducted to fill the vacant seats in the assembly.

The Male' President post became vacant following the resignation of former Male' Mayor Shifa Mohamed. Azim contested against former Maafannu West MP Mohamed Falaah, securing the victory with 1,079 votes compared to Falaah's 470 votes.

In addition to the Male' presidency, 20 by-elections were held yesterday. Notably, former Defense Minister Maria Ahmed Didi won the Galolhu North constituency.

Previously, Azim managed the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) under a Jumhooree Party (JP) slot during President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration. He later left the JP and joined the MDP during the last presidential election. After joining the MDP, Azim contested and won the election for the Mayor of Male' City on the MDP ticket.
