Zakiyya’s body brought to Male’ for investigation

The body of Zakiyya Moosa Manik, who was discovered dead with injuries in N. Holhudhoo on Tuesday, has been brought to Male’ for further investigation.

Zakiyya, from a wealthy family of the island, was found dead near a storeroom adjacent to the kitchen of her home by foreign workers who went to collect garbage from the residence.

Police said they received a report of a woman with injuries found in a home in Holhudhoo at 10.10am on Tuesday. Zakiyya was rushed to the health centre, where she was pronounced dead.

Police confirmed Zakiyya's body was brought to Male’ early Wednesday for further investigation. No arrests have been made in connection with Zakiyya’s death thus far. A special police team are active to Holhudhoo to investigate the death.

While the cause of Zakiyya’s death is yet to be determined, some residents reported the presence of a knife at the scene. Opinions in the community on Zakiyya’s heath differ, with some suggesting she suffered from mental illness while others described her as a kind and sociable person with no apparent mental health issues.

Zakiyya is survived by a husband, two children and a grand daughter, with one of her children residing in the same house with Zakiyya.
