Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has signed an agreement with Ihavandhoo Council to develop a dockyard and slipway on the island.
The agreement was signed on Friday by Council President Ahmed Sabah, and MPL’s CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim, at a ceremony held on the island.
The dockyard and slipway are being developed in Ihavandhoo to provide services under Uthuru Maritime Service (UMS).
Speaking at the ceremony, Wajeeh said the dockyard and slipway are important resources and facilities for the maritime services provided by the company in the Maldives’ north. Therefore, the company aims to commence the works at the earliest.
Council President Sabah said the establishment of a dockyard and a slipway would be an important additional development for the island. He noted that the project would open up employment opportunities for the island’s residents.
At the ceremony, MPL also donated a KOBELCO brand 25-tonne crane to Ihavandhoo Island Council .
