A vessel acquired by the State Trading Organization (STO) for bunkering purposes has been brought to the Maldives.
The vessel, now docked at Kulhudhuffushi Port, has the capacity to carry 4,000 metric tonnes of oil. STO is expecting the arrival of a second similar vessel on September 15.
Several vessels designated for bunkering operations have already been brought to Kulhudhuffushi. The service is set to launch on September 12, from Hoarafushi coast, as an offshore service. STO and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) will be the primary operators of the service.
The government is seeking a partner to develop a yacht marina in Haa Alif Ihavandhoo to coincide with the expansion of bunkering services in the northern region.
