Housing Ministry to announce Gedhoruveriyaa flat recipients this month

The Housing Ministry has confirmed that the list of beneficiaries for 4000 flats under the former administration’s Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme will be publicized this month.

During President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s MDP administration, 13,000 people applied for the flats under the Gedhoruveriyaa Scheme. However, more than 7,400 complaints were submitted after the Planning Ministry publicized the initial list of eligible recipients. In response, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) intervened, ordering a suspension of the allocation until all complaints were thoroughly addressed.

Although the Planning Ministry attempted to proceed with the flat allocation after addressing the complaints, the ACC intervened once again in November last year, halting the handover during a lottery ceremony conducted by the previous government. Subsequent investigations by the ACC revealed that nearly 60 percent of the applications did not meet the eligibility criteria. Of the applications meeting the eligibility criteria, 19.7 percent of applications had issues and only 20.7 percent forms had no issues, ACC said. A committee was later formed to oversee the flat allocation.

The Housing Ministry had previously said that the new list of flat recipients will be announced this month. Reiterating the same on Sunday, the ministry said administrative work to finalize the list are ongoing.
