STELCO begins upgrading Male’ electricity network ahead of peak season

STELCO has commenced upgrading the electricity network in the Male’ area in preparation for the upcoming hot weather or peak season.

STELCO said in a post on social media that it is working to ensure sustainable electricity supply to keep pace with the rising demand in the city. This includes expanding the capacity of the substation located at the junction of Majeedhee Magu and Sosun Magu, where the existing 630 KVA transformer has now been replaced with a 1,500 KVA transformer.

“There are more plans in place to boost the capacity of the distribution network to meet the electricity demand in the city,” STELCO said.

STELCO recently signed an MoU with China's TBEA Group Co. Ltd. to establish a 150MW powerhouse in Gulhifalhu, and to conduct a study on establishing a high capacity transmission line linking Male’, Villimale’, Gulhifalhu.
