Agriculture Minister calls for increased spending on agricultural marketing

Agriculture Minister Dr. Aishath Rameela has expressed the need for greater national expenditure on marketing agricultural products. She made the remark while speaking at the "Coordinated Policy Responses to Food Crisis" forum during the Committee on World Food Security meeting ongoing in Rome, Italy.

Speaking at the forum, Minister Rameela highlighted the global challenges of eradicating hunger and ensuring access to healthy food. She pointed out that the Maldives, too, must focus on securing its food supply, instead of relying on imported goods. This can be achieved by enhancing local agricultural productivity and increasing agricultural products through environmentally sustainable practices, she noted.

Noting the specific obstacles facing the agricultural sector in the Maldives, including the impacts of climate change, limited land availability, and broader global shifts, Minister Rameela emphasized the need for innovative farming techniques, raising public awareness, and adopting renewable energy sources for agriculture.
