The government's proposed budget for next year has earmarked MVR 14 billion for employee salaries.
According to official figures, the government currently employs approximately 44,000 individuals, with plans to expand the workforce by an additional 6,000 employees in 2025.
The state has proposed a total budget of MVR 56.6 billion for next year. As per the budget, nearly 25 percent of the entire budget will be spent on salaries. Therefore, this is about 15 percent more than this year's salary expenditure, with the government expected to spend MVR 12 billion on salaries this year.
Out of the MVR 56.6 billion budget, MVR 49.2 billion is expected to cover total expenditures. This comprises MVR 35.9 billion in recurrent expenses and MVR 13.3 billion in capital expenditures.
