Dharumavantha Hospital, the 25-story extension of the main government hospital in the Maldives, has been officially inaugurated as a tertiary care facility.
The hospital was constructed during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen, and began operations in 2019, under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The hospital's official opening on Friday under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration comes after five years of the hospital being in operation.
The inauguration included the establishment of a national fertility center on the 22nd floor of the hospital. The center will provide state-of-the-art services such as Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and facilities for sperm, egg, and embryo freezing. A state-of-the-art hybrid cathlab for cardiovascular procedures was also established on the 11th floor of the hospital. Additionally, the hospital's emergency unit has been converted into a dedicated ER for children. A children's ICU has also been set up at the hospital.
