President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to construct 15,000 housing units in the Male' area and 12.940 housing units in the atolls next year.
Speaking at a ceremony held on Sunday night on the occasion of the government's one-year anniversary, President Dr. Muizzu said next year's national budget will primarily focus on addressing the housing crisis facing the Maldives. In this regard, MVR 1.5 billion has been earmarked for housing projects from next year's budget, while MVR 1 billion has been allocated for a housing loan scheme, he said.
The President highlighted that housing projects will be launched in 41 islands for the first time next year. He assured that all housing units under the proposed projects would be completed and handed over to recipients before the end of his presidential term.
