Pres Dr. Muizzu advocates local empowerment in fishing industry

The current administration does not wish to centralize control, and instead, seeks to increase community participation, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated.

Addressing AA. Rasdhoo residents on his ongoing tour of several islands in Kaafu and Alif Alif Atolls, the president emphasized the importance of the fishing industry for Rasdhoo, and said the government's policy is to enable the community to produce ice locally, ensuring the fish remains fresh, instead of centralizing control. He mentioned that the people of Rasdhoo share this goal, and his government is collaborating closely with the Councils to facilitate the necessary support.

"The government will assist in facilitating the support required, by working closely with councils," he added.

The president also addressed challenges stemming from budget constraints. He noted that the former administration did not consider the incoming administration's requests in the post-election interim period when formulating the budget for the current year. These limitations have 'put a lock' on development projects, he said.

Outlining the government's plans for the next two years, President Dr. Muizzu said the administration will initiate and complete projects in all islands without discrimination. The government's main target for the current year was to avoid the state going into bankruptcy and steering the country towards economic stability, he added. He expressed confidence that the strong foundations laid by this administration will bring economic growth to the country, with positive results being witnessed next year.

'The budget approved by the Parliament for the upcoming year enables development projects across Maldives, including Rasdhoo island,' he said.

The president further said true progress is societal and intellectual development and self-sufficiency alongside infrastructure development. While this development is what the citizens wish to bring about to the country, he reaffirmed his commitment to steer the country in that direction. He assured the public that constructive, sustainable, and real development can be achieved if the country moves forward with unity and a national mindset, without getting caught up in politics.
