The number of tourists visiting the Maldives in December has shown a slight decrease compared to the previous year.
Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry show that 62,249 tourists visited the Maldives during the first 11 days of December, a two percent decline from the 63,523 tourists that visited during the same period last year. The drop comes amid the recent implementation of increased Airport Tax and fees this month.
However, despite the decline in the first eleven days of December, the overall number of tourist arrivals has increased this year by 8.7 percent. The Maldives is expected to reach its annual target of hosting 2 million tourists before the end of the year.
