The Transport Ministry has facilitated flexible payment options for land vehicle and marine vessel owners who have difficulties in paying their annual fees and penalties incurred from late payments, as a lump sum.
New regulations gazetted by the ministry outlines the criteria to be eligible for monthly installment payment options to settle dues. The criteria includes owing over MVR 10,000 in dues, having passed the deadline for payment, having made a request to avail flexible payment options, being the registered owner of the vessel or vehicle, and not having utilized the flexible payment option in the past.
According to the regulation, a commitment fee must be paid to avail the ease. The annual fee and penalty payments can be divided over 10 months to 42 months.
