Travel ban lifted for nine individuals in Binveriyaa Corruption Case

Authorities have lifted the travel ban imposed on nine individuals linked to the Binveriyaa corruption.

The passports of 20 individuals were initially withheld in relation to an investigation into the issuance of land under Binveriyaa Scheme to ineligible individuals by forging documents.

The police Monday said of the 20 individuals, the passports of nine individuals have been released based on the recommendation of the Prosecutor General. Although the details of these individuals were not disclosed, the police confirmed that the travel ban on the Housing Development Corporation (HDC)’s former Managing Director Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed and his brother, Mdle’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC)’s Deputy Managing Director Mohamed Fazeel Rasheed remain in effect.

While Fazeel is not a land recipient under the Binveriyaa Scheme, he possessed a forged land registry. Other individuals are also in possession of similar falsified documents, it is reported.

When the case came to light, Prosecutor General Abbas Shareef ordered a criminal investigation into the case. The police and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) are actively investigating the case.
