The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an urgent investigation into allegations of misconduct in awarding the construction police flats in Hulhumale Phase I. The allegations suggest that the project was handled in a way that benefited certain parties.
An ACC official confirmed the investigation but did not share further details citing ongoing investigations.
The investigation follows an audit report issued by the Auditor General on Thursday stating that MVR 1 billion has already been spent on the construction of police flats, with a loss of MVR 355 million recorded so far.
The audit report said the original agreement to complete the police flats was changed and the work was reassigned to different contractors without proper payment for the work done. This was done to provide undue benefit to each contractor, the report said.
Therefore, the audit had recommended that the ACC and the relevant authorities to investigate the case and take action against all those involved.
