Utility company FENAKA has revealed that mass acts of corruption had taken place within the company.
FENAKA was summoned to the parliament committee due to complaints submitted by the opposition claiming that employees at FENAKA were being wrongfully dismissed due to their political preference.
Refuting the claims, Deputy Managing Directer of FENAKA Ibrahim Waheed said several employees were dismissed with the company's decision to shut down 14 regional offices of the company in a bid to cut costs to re-stabilize the financial situation of the company. Staff implicated in acts of corruption were also dismissed, said Waheed. If no action is taken against these staff, the heads of the corporation themselves would be in hot-water, he added.
Noting few such circumstances, Waheed said an employee was dismissed after MVR 380,000 went missing from a safe. In another instance, 100,000 liters of oil being sent to a regional powerhouse went missing, and all electricity bills of an island were changed by three employees. The three employees of FENAKA based in an island had amended the electricity bills issued to households and businesses of the whole island.
Waheed said most such cases have been filed with the police, while others have been submitted at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). ACC has previously revealed that they are investigating several cases of corruption within FENAKA Corporation.
