The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has reported that 30,569 tonnes of flood water were pumped from Male’ on Friday.
Male’ experienced heavy rainfall on Friday from afternoon until late night, causing extensive flooding across the island. Floodwaters affected several households and businesses, causing damage to property.
According to MNDF, flood water pumping operations commenced at 11:37 am on Friday and went on until 8:30 am on Saturday. Pumps were used to remove flood water from the roads, with several pumps installed in the West Park, IGMH, Salman Mosque, Maafannu Ferry Terminal, Kudakudhinge Bageecha and Voice of Maldives area.
The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) said Male’ recorded 142.6mm of rain on Friday, and Hulhule; 144mm between 8:00am Friday to 8:00 am Saturday.
