The Deputy President of The Democrats Mohamed Shifaz, along with several senior party officials, has returned to the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
The Democrats was formed following internal disagreements within MDP, with several key members of MDP leaving the party to join the Democrats. The Democrats have since contested both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
Media reports indicate that several prominent figures within the Democrats, including Shifaz and Council Member and former Henveiru Central MP Ali Azim, former Managing Director of Greater Male’ Company Ibrahim Rasheed (Maamigili Iboo), and Hussain Amr, the running mate of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate Ilyas Labeeb, have also rejoined MDP.
While these individuals have not addressed these reports, senior officials from MDP have confirmed that their return to the party.
