The business registration of Radius Pvt Ltd, a company found manufacturing cigarettes illegally, have been revoked.
On January 10 this year, the police searched Henveiru Hulhugali, rented by Radius Pvt Ltd, after receiving information that cigarettes were being manufactured at the location. Upon searching the apartment under a court order, 49,000 cigarette packs were found at the location.
According to the Tobacco Control Act, the manufacturer of tobacco in the Maldives is prohibited.
While the Economic Ministry has now revoked the business permit issued to the company, the Health Ministry has also authorized the destruction of the confiscated cigarettes.
