'All imported tobacco products will have graphic warning labels by 2020'

Health Minister Abdulla Ameen has stated that tobacco will not be imported to Maldives without a graphic photo warning label effective from 2020.

Speaking at the ceremony held to conclude the "Development in Strengthening Tobacco Control Policy in Maldives to Achieve Empower" project conducted from 2017-2019, Minister Ameen said the most successful outcome of the project was the introduction of graphic photo warning labels.

Noting that importing cigarette and tobacco products without photo labels is prohibited even now, products that were imported before the regulation came into effect are still in circulation. However, all tobacco products on the market will have a graphic photo label from next year onward, said Ameen.
