Night market begins with 350 stalls

This year's night market has begun last night with 350 stalls. Last year the number of stalls in the market was 750.

This year's market is managed by Maldives Music and Art Center (MMAC). The market will close on the 15th of this month.

Speaking to Avas, Chairman Ali Abdul Karee said this year they had to relocate the night market to the carnival area, as the loniziyaaraaiy kolhu area, normally used for the market is the construction site of the Bridge. The carnival area had been closed off for the duration of the market.

"We wanted to give the opportunity to all, but as the area is small we can only give space to 350," Kareem said.

He said this year's market will have higher security. Kareem said the area is under 24 hours surveillance and the area's security will be managed by Dhivehi Security Pioneers. Additionally, an MVR 100,000 insurance scheme had been introduced for the vendors.

The night market will be open from 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm and from 8.00 pm to 10.00 pm.
