Charges against Fiyaz "unclear": Judge

Presiding Judge on Raajje TV CEO Hussain Fiyaz's case, has said that the charges filed were unclear. Adam Arif, former lawyer at the PG office, is the presiding judge.

Assault charges were filed against Fiyaz, relating to clause 120, subsection (c). The degree of the case had been classified by number (iii) of the same clause, which states that due to the offense a Police or an MNDF personnel was injured.

In today's hearing Judge Areef said the charges against Fiyaz were unclear. Judge said the charges did not specify whether the service person had sustained any damages due to the said offense committed by Fiyaz. He questioned that in the absence of this, why the charges were graded as such.

State lawyers said they did believe that the charges have to be made clearer, especially regarding the injuries of the service personnel. The state lawyers requested for additional time to address the issues raised by the Judge. The Judge had announced that the trial can proceed only after the issues had been addressed.

The maximum sentence for the charges is a four year jail term. Fiyaz is being charged in connection to the incidents that had occurred during the coverage of IED disposal discovered in the Muleeaage area.

Fiyaz has no previous records of criminal charges.
