A study carried out by a sociologist in Stanford University claims that the rise in Racism is what is prompting the rise of Donald Trump.
The study claims that white Americans feel that their status at the top of the hierarchy is being threatened by minority groups. Because of this, many are rooting for Donald Trump to protect their status at the top of the social hierarchy. The study claimed that many are rooting for a political force that would help restore the "status of whiteness".
The Stanford sociologist Robb Willer discovered that racial resentment was tied to the greater support for the Tea Party (Conservative faction aligned with the Republican Party). The study shows that the decline in the "Great white" is what is prompting many Americans to turn to platforms promoting whiteness over other minorities. Some analysts have suggested that this is the main reason why Trump is rising.
The Stanford Professor which conducted this study believes that the white status began to feel threatened when Barack Obama was elected as the President in 2008. Robb Willer believes that these feelings intensified with the recession, and the growing political and social influence of minorities in America.
One of the studies conducted told the participants that the white share in the total population was getting lower or that the average white income was declining in comparison to that of other minorities. This prompted many to go in favour with the Tea Party, which the study claims is blatant example of the racial resentment explained above.
The study concluded that the factors behind the increased support for the Tea party was the same thing that was fuelling support for Donald Trump. Concluding notes claimed that Trump's ideology was more radical than that of the Tea Party.
