Four deadly bombings in the capital of Iraq have killed at least 90 people according to police officials.
The attacks which occurred yesterday has been classified as the bloodiest attack this year. Explosives packed into a 4WD vehicle was blown up near a beauty salon, killing 63 people and injuring more than 100 people. The IS has claimed the attacks targeting different sectors of muslims like the Shiite.
There were a total of four attacks which killed at least 90 people. The bombing in Sadr City neighborhood killed 63 people and wounded more than 100. Another attack was launched in the Kadhimiyah neighborhood where 13 people died and 20 were injured. The third attack which was in Huriyyah neighborhood killed seven people and injured 23 people. The fourth attack in Jamiyah killed seven people and injured 22 others.
Social media statements have described these attacks as "the year's bloodiest day in Baghdad".
IS has claimed that the attack on Sadr City was carried out by a suicide bomber. Iraqi officials however, have been denying this. The three other bombings, which occurred after the Sadr bombing killed a total of 27 people and rocked thee different provinces in Baghdad. Officials revealed that these explosions occurred at police checkpoints and predominant Shia districts.
Police officials have announced that toll for all the attacks are expected to rise.
IS had claimed responsibility for the attacks that occurred outside of Baghdad and Anbar, though details of these attacks have not been revealed by officials yet. The police however did confirm that at least 15 Iraqi soldiers and 40 people were wounded in the suicide attack claimed by IS.
IS have been increasing their offensives as the Iraqi army draws closer to ISIL held territory.
