President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Qayyoom has said that there was no reason not increase the retiree allowance from MVR 5000 to MVR 15000, if Maldives was made into a economic success.
Speaking in the ceremony held to mark the Golden Jubilee of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), President Yameen said previously, the allowance was at MVR 2000, which was subsequently increased to MVR 2300 and MVR 5000.
"The elderly have rendered industrious service. Those who are not eligible for pension, we have given an allowance. Before we gave MVR 800, then increased to MVR 2000, then MVR 2300. Now every elderly person receives MVR 5000. If the nation progresses, then isn't it possible to raise this figure to MVR 15000?" the President.
The President highlighted that it was necessary to determine if it was a feasible aspect, noting that development must take place first.
He announced that it was a core aim to make the Hulhule' Male' a land mark that will change the lifestyle of people, ease travel and a land mark the entire nation is proud of.
