Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has labelled actions that disrupt the work carried out by President Abdullah Yameen for national development, as a "national crime" and called on the opposition to educate and reform themselves.
Speaking in the ceremony held to mark the Golden Jubilee of Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA), Minister Saeed indirectly leveled harsh criticism against the former President Mohamed Nasheed, stating that President Yameen was a long term visionary. He added that the President was more than aware of the challenges he had faced both internally and externally.
Minister Saeed said disrupting the development work carried out by the Government was a "national crime". Even if the act was committed by a former President living in another nation or in UK, Minister Saeed said it would be classified as a crime. He urged those individuals to educate themselves and revert back.
"I believe that it is a highly unethical thing, carrying out an act like that, whether a former President or a patriot. If while in UK and criticizing and hampering the work of the President, then I have to quote the first thing said in Islam, "iqra" (learn)!" the Minister said.
Saeed said the opportunity to educate oneself was open to all, noting that even Nasheed can apply to the many colleges in the Maldives. He urged Nasheed to educate himself and to revert to the truth.
"Instead of those people returning back home and impeding the President's work, I call on them to educate themselves and to revert back to the truth," he said.
