At least 70 killed in Baghdad bombings

At least 70 people killed and hundreds more wounded in the Baghdad bombings mainly targeting Shia neighbourhoods.

Police officials and medical sources reveal that at least 70 people have died, and hundreds more are being treated for various injuries. Officials have also revealed that the death toll might increase as the rubble is cleared and emergency responders attend to the site.

A suicide bomb attack in a market place, of a Shia populated district, Al - Shaab killed 38 people and wounded over 70 more people. Another attack was carried out in the Sadr district. A car full of explosives was detonated in the Sadr district where 19 people died and an additional 17 people were wounded.

ISIL have taken responsibility for the Al - Shaab attack. The terrorist group revealed that the suicide attack was carried out by a man named Abu Khattab al - iraqi. The bomber allegedly threw hand grenades and then detonated his suicide belt.

Another car bombing, in the mixed Shia-Sunni southern Baghdad neighbourhood of al-Rasheed, killed six and wounded 21, the sources said, in what a military spokesperson described as a suicide attack.
No groups have taken responsibility for the Sadr city and al - Rasheed bombings.
