The third round of the Maldives China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) discussions has begun this morning.
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed and Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Fukang headed the discussions on behalf of the respective nations.
Economic Ministry said the discussions will be held for three days, but had not revealed any additional information. The meetings will be held without the presence of journalists.
Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed had previously said the FTA will allow Maldivian exporters to access Chinese markets easily, especially the zero tariffs for fish and fish products.
Recently Hong Kong had expressed interest in starting an FTA with the Maldives.
