150 to be tagged, released from jail

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said 150 prisoners will be released in the last 10 days of Ramadan. The 150 to be released are part of the 300 prisoners to be released under parole and will be released after getting fitted with a special tag.

He made the statement in an interview given to Vnews. In the interview, Minister Umar said 300 criminals will be released this year. He said that a special committee is now working on the process and the first 150 criminals will be released in the last 10 days of Ramadan.

Minister said though the prisoners will be released from prison, they will not be released. He said they will be transferred to house arrest and will be under constant surveillance. Minister Umar said they will be released on the condition they either study or work.

Minister Umar added that these criminals are not violent criminals and they had been chosen for parole after meeting certain requirements.

They will be released after outfitting them with a tag, which will monitor their movements. The tags are different and lighter than the monicon tags.

Already 248 have been shortlisted as eligible for parole.
