Opposition MDP has released a statement, stating that long term sentences are issued unjustly, noting that the only remedy for this was the "arrest of President Yameen".
The Party had released the statement, highly critical of the sentences issued on former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb, his two bodyguards, former PG Muhthaz Muhsin and Maamigilee Court Senior Magistrate Ahmed Nihan.
The statements said the investigations and trials into these cases had clearly shown lack of impartiality, irrespective of who was on trial. MDP said the cases conducted against Magistrate Nihan and PG Muhthaz, on the issue of a trumped up arrest warrant, had earned the two lengthy sentences of 17 years each. The Party said there was clear cut proof that these sentences were delivered defying all principles and standards of an impartial, just trial.
"Issuing court orders without a substantial basis, to arrest members of public and political figures, even though a Judge was not arrested in any case, in the event [if a Judge issues] an arrest warrant for President Yameen surfaces, and if that Judge is declared illegal and jailed, it is a clear distinction that the President had ubarred influence on judicial justice," the statement said.
