Home Minister Umar Naseer has announced that 21 minors, involved in gangs have been sent to Dh.Vaanee for rehabilitation. The children were sent to the police station in Vaanee, where rehabilitation programs would be conducted in order for them to be released back to the society again.
Umar Naseer said that 21 minors who were illegally involved in gang activities have been sent to Dh.Vaanee for a special rehabilitation program in a tweet he sent out today. Furthermore, he also said that the children would be put through a division program that is conducted by a team of 27 trainers.
Minister Umar has previously said that the rehabilitation program would be conducted with a joint team involving the Gender ministry, MNDF and Juvenile Justice. Umar also said that minors involved in illegal gang activities would be sent to Vaanee for rehabilitation with or without the parent's permission.
Minister Umar said that taking minors out from gang environments means that the only people that have to be dealt with are prominent gang members. Furthermore, Minister Umar also said that Monicon is being used to monitor and subdue gang leaders.
Minister Umar said that he himself would take charge of the middlemen involved in the gangs.
