"No political motive for reform agenda"

Former President and PPM President Maumoon Abdul Qayoom has stated that he had no political motive in introducing the reform agenda aimed at resolving the many issues that plague PPM.

His statements came amid strong criticisms against his reform agenda, especially from Party Vice President Abdu Raheem Abdullah and strong divisions within the Party.

In a tweet posted this evening, Maumoon said the "PPM reform agenda is just that. No political motives are behind it", adding that he wanted to ensure that party rules and democratic values are respected and upheld.

Following the announcement of the reform agenda, Maumoon had formed an eight member advisory council. Former Home Minister Umar Naseer, initially a member of the council, was dismissed from the Council after he had announced that he will seek to contest in the next elections.
