MTCC has introduced ferry services for zones 1, 2 and 6 and had offered travel free fare for today to mark the occasion.
MTCC, largest transportation services provider in the country, said the company had begun services for islands in HA., HDh., and Sh. Atolls in Zone 1, islands in N., R., B., Lh. Atolls in Zone 2 and islands in GA. and GDh. Atolls in Zone 6. The company currently provides ferry services in Zones 3 and 5. With the new zones, MTCC now provides ferry services to 168 islands.
Only F. and Dh. Atolls in Zone 4 and Addu and Fuvahmulah in Zone 7 are not covered under MTCC ferry services. Vermilion International provides ferry services in Zone 4, while MPL provides ferry services in Zone 7.
MTCC said that tickets for inter-atoll travel will be sold at MVR 22 per trip and outbound travel will be at MVR 53 per trip.
