Former Home Minister Umar Naseer has met Jumhooree Party (JP) Leader Qasim Ibrahim.
The meeting was held last night in Qasim's residence, M. Maafannu Villa. Speaking to press after the meeting, Umar said the meeting was held to drum up support for his camp in the next Presidential elections. He reported that Qasim had said he will reflect on the proposition and make a decision.
"Qasim is the king maker. No camp can hope to win the election without his backing," Umar said.
Umar said he had the trump card over any opponent in the upcoming elections.
Male' City Mayor Mohamed Shihab had also met Qasim last night. Shihab is a member of the shadow cabinet created by the opposition. Additionally, former Member of Parliament Alhan Fahmy also visited Qasim last night.
Alhan said that he had met Qasim to secure support for his presidential run in 2018. Neither Shihab nor Qasim had revealed what their meeting was about.
Two senior members of PPM's Yameen faction had visited Qasim as well.
