Ethics Committee begins review of Faris case, challenges Maumoon's wish on issue

PPM Ethics Committee has begun to review MP for Dhiggaru Constituency Faris Maumoon for having failed to abide by the Party's whip line. The review had been started in spite of the order issued by PPM President and MP Faris' father Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom.

The Committee had summoned Faris to the Committee at 2 pm today and will answer to Committee over his decision to vote against the three line whip issued by the Party over the controversial amendment which allows the lease of islands without a bidding process. The Committee Chair said the details of the Committee meeting will not be shared with the media.

Additionally, former Executive Coordinator at Gender Ministry Aminath Nadhira and Male' City Member Zaidhul Ameen had also been summoned to the Committee. Both of them were summoned for criticizing Government on social media.

A statement released by Faris over the issue said that PPM was founded to protect public rights, but to be penalized for voting in public interest was deeply disheartening. His statement said he will support all work within the Party carried out free from influence and in accordance to Party laws.
