Committee passess anti-terror policy

The 11-member interim Committee formed to review the President's paper on the Government's terrorism and extremism policy had passed the paper.

The Committee passed to review the policy as it was proposed. The 11-member Committee included MPs from all parties.

The President proposed the policy as the terrorism and extremism was one of the biggest issues facing the country and impacted national security and public safety as well. Additionally, the Government said while the current laws on the issue offered adequate measures, additional changes to the legal framework was essential in combating the issue effectively.

The paper was sent to the Parliament for review on July 8.
