EU expresses concern over Maldives heritage

European Union (EU) has expressed concern, stating that it was tragic that there was no regard for the country's heritage. The Union made the statement in connection to the transfer of Kalhuvakaru Mosque.

Kalhuvakaru Mosque is a prime example of Maldivian craftsmanship and creativity and is to be relocated to GDh. Thinadhoo. The mosque is to be placed in the island's old Friday mosque area. Initially the mosque was to be placed in Hulhumale's Heritage Island.

Former Head of Heritage Department, Yumna Maumoon had also expressed concern over the transfer. She said she had offered her resignation over the matter.

The mosque has been relocated many times, including during President Nasir's tenure and then in 1979 when it was relocated to Male' during President Maumoon's tenure.
