Housing Development Corporation (HDC) says Singapore and Dubai companies have expressed interest in carrying out the development of the yatch marina and cruise liner terminal in Hulhumale'. Land has been reclaimed for the terminals.

HDC Managing Director Mohamed Saiman said the shore protection procedures were underway. He added that design works will be completed this year and the area will be assigned to a contractor for development.

Saiman said the area will be developed to international standards by reputed developers. He said the company was engaging in discussions with interested parties but had not revealed additional details.

"We have to consider many aspects from technical and engineering point of view. Right next to the area is the banana reef. Airport restrictions are quite high as well," Saiman said.
