Adhaalath Party to join All Party Talks

Adhaalath Party (AP) says the Party will participate in the All Party Talks. Previously the Party had stipulated that their leader Imran Abdullah must be released for them to participate in the talks.

A tweet issued by the Party today said the Party "is willing to participate in the talks as encouraged by the UN, CMAG & other stakeholders" but did not offer additional details.

The President's Office had requested for both Adhaalath Party and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to send their representatives for the talks. MDP national council passed the decision of appointing representatives to the Party leadership. MDP had previously said they were willing to engage in discussions to resolve the issues facing the nation. However, they had previously stated they will participate only when all jailed political figures, including Party leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed, is freed.

All Party Talks were initiated by President Abdullah Yameen and UN Special Envoy Tamrat Samuel is acting as mediator.
