Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim says that by the end of this Presidential term, 75 percent of the population will have access to clean water and sanitation.
He made the statement speaking in the ceremony held to open the new showroom of MWSC. In his address, the Minister said in 2013, only 37 percent of the population had proper sanitation networks and 25 percent had access to clean water networks.
Minister Thoriq said this Government had created clean water and sanitation networks in 10 islands, with the number set to increase in the coming days.
"There are significant challenges to the Government when carrying out these projects Especially now we hear allegations and rumors that there were significant losses in Maldives listed on the CMAG agenda," the Minister.
Minister said the Government projects will carry on as planned irrespective of whether the country is listed on CMAG agenda.
Thoriq said the tender process must be under strict review as such projects were more expensive now. He also stressed that smaller businesses that are engaged in the same profession must be allowed opportunities.
He also called on MWSC to expedite their operations and expand their CSR initiative.
