The Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has been awarded a contract to upgrade the water systems in all islands of southernmost Addu City.
At a ceremony held on Saturday, MWSC's Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed signed the agreement on behalf of the company, while Construction Ministry's State Minister Ibrahim Tha'aam Mohamed signed the agreement on behalf of the ministry.
The project, which is expected to cost MVR 282 million from the state budget, is slated for completion within one year.
The project includes the construction of an RO facility building, borehole drilling, and the installation of two RO plants with the capacity of producing 1,500 tonnes of water daily. and installation of six water storage tanks, including three 200-tonne tanks and three 100-tonne tanks, on Hithadhoo island.
Additionally, the construction of an RO facility building, borehole drilling, installation of two RO plants with the capacity to produce 350 tonnes of water daily, and the installation of three 1,000-tonne water storage tanks in Hulhumeedhoo island are also included under the project.
Four tanks of 1,000-tonnes capacity will also be installed in Maradhoo, Maradhoofeydhoo, and Feydhoo islands, alongside the provision of water testing equipment to these islands. The project also includes training relevant staff in Addu City with the necessary skills and knowledge for water management.
