Hankede Bridge opening postponed to September

The opening of the Addu Detour Bridge, also known as the Hankede Bridge, in Addu City has been postponed.

Initially, the Infrastructure Ministry announced in June that the bridge would be opened to the public in July. However, the opening has now been rescheduled for September.

According to the Addu City Council, fence installation work is currently being carried out on both sides of the bridge. This work is expected to be completed within this month.

The Hankede Bridge was constructed under a contract awarded to India's AFCONS company to link Addu City's Gaukedi and Maradhoo islands. The project, launched in 2021, cost MVR 1.1 billion.
